Abstract
Reproductive per10rmance of sheep breeds; desert BaOQ (B), AraSsi (A) and
F, (112A.1128) in 1" hand and goats breeds of desert Barld (B), Damascus (D), F,
(1/20.1I2B}, Fl (3I40.1/4B), F~ (7180.1I8B) and F4 (151160.11168) In f'_' hand were
studied under semi-and condition of the c;oastal zone of the weslem desert of Egypt
during year 2000.
Genotype of sbeep failed to show any significant effect on nU"J r of service
per conception (NSPC). gestation length (GL), oestrous cycle (OCL) and oestrous
duration(OO) .. The overall mean of gestation length of sheep was 147.93±O.27 days.
Barkl ewes needed !he least number of service per conception and had the least
oestrous duration than other genotypes studied. The oestrous cycle of f\wassi ewes
was shorter than Ihat of Bar1d ewes. Age of dam had highly significant effect on NSPC
and non-significant effect on GL, OCL and 00. The GL and 00 decreased with
increase of age until more than 4 years. Weight of dam had highly significant effect on
GL. Occurrence of oestrous was 1000Al in ~ Ax ~B eweS but it was 95.150/. and 90%
In B and A ewes, respectively.
Genotype of goat had significant effect only on number of seMce per
conception. The overall mean or gestation length was 150.25:1:0.32 ~ys. Oestrous
duration was sigolfK;anUy affected by genotype 01 goat. Weight of dam only had
signifICant effect on 00. while age of dam had signfficant effect on GL and 00. The
onset of oastrous eceurred more frequentty at moming for Bother tha 0 and theIr
crosses.
